Archimedes lived circa 287-212 BC on the island of Syracuse until an invading Roman soldier struck him down with his sword (against orders). The soldier was said to have been angry because Archimedes, who was engrossed in his studies, did not acknowledge his presence.

He was talking about the lever, but there are all types of levers.
